After a lot of hard work from a very dedicated group of volunteers the website is now up and running. There are 590 entries which represent servicemen from numerous regiments and corps, including the Canadian Siege Artillery, the Royal Flying Corps and both the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy, there are even a couple of policemen from Warwickshire who have signed the book!
The website will be updated on a regular basis as we continue our research, we have already found six descendants! However, we hope that people will take a look at the servicemen’s entries and contact us with any information they may have. We would particularly like to add photographs of the individuals, either during or after the war, to help tell their story.
Don’t forget to take a look at the local historian’s page to find out more about Peterborough during the Great War. If you have an article about the city during that period that you would like us to include then please let us know.
The visitors’ books are held at Peterborough Archives, if you would like to see the original books please contact the archives services to make an appointment on 01733 864160 or email.
