Biography

Private Alexander MacDonald passed through Peterborough East Station on two occasions.  The first time was on 16 November 1916, when he was serving with the 9th Battalion Highland Light Infantry (Glasgow Highlanders) and he wrote in the visitors’book Un soupire vient souvent d’un souvenir” which translates to “A sigh often just a memory”.  His second visit was on 2 January 1917, when he was serving with the 2/4th Seaforth Highlanders and he wrote in the visitors’ book “A Happy New Year to all”.

We have been unable to locate the service records for Private MacDonald but his medal card reveals that he served overseas and was awarded the British War and Allied Victory Medals.
