Biography

Lance Corporal A W Townsend passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 15 August 1916. From his entry we know that at that time he was stationed at Killingmoor Camp in Harrogate, with the 4/1 Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment.

The 4/1 Battalion was formed in Newmarket and moved to Bury St Edmunds, Harrogate, Doncaster and Thoresby before disbanding in October 1917. http://www.1914-1918.net/cambridge.htm
