Biography
C Newell was serving with the Heavy Section Machine Gun Corps when he passed through Peterborough East Station on 24 September 1916. He wrote in the visitors’ book “Here’s to the ladies of the Soldiers and Sailors Rest, Peterboro. God Bless them”. He also wrote the word “Wellies” after his regiment, which may mean he was with the Duke of Wellington’s (West Yorkshire) Regiment
