Biography
D Craig was one of two sailors travelling together and they passed through Peterborough East Station on 22 May 1917. They wrote in the visitors’ book “Just a word of thanks giving for the kindness shown by the Ladies of the G.E.R Rest Room on 22/5/17 D. Craig & George Ayres, H.M.S Conway, Immingham, Lincs”.
‘HMS Conway was a naval training school or “school ship”, founded in 1859 and housed for most of her life aboard a 19th-century wooden ship of the line. The ship was originally stationed on the Mersey near Liverpool. It sank in the Menai Straits in 1953 whilst being towed for refit work’.
