Biography

Private E Greenhaigh passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on on 14 October 1916.  His entry read:

“Many thanks to the kind (1800s style) ladys of the Soldiers Rest and should like to stay longer, but needs must when the devil drives.”

He also states that he is going “from Clipstone Camp to Newmarket”; we are not sure if that meant he was transferring to a different camp or perhaps going home.

Without a regiment or service number, it has not been possible to trace any military records for Private Greenhalgh.
