Biography

Sapper E Read was serving with the 3rd Depot Company Royal Engineers based at Newark-on-Trent when he passed through Peterborough East Station on 21 September 1916.  He wrote in the visitors’ book “A home from home at the Soldiers and Sailors rest.”  Other than his legible handwriting, Sapper Read has left insufficient clues for us to be able to identify him.
