In November 1915, he received a shrapnel wound to his right foot and was taken to 54 Casualty Clearing Station Sulva, Gallipoli and on 26 November 1915 was admitted to 2nd Birmingham Hospital, Northfield. He was awarded the British War and Allied Victory Medals and the 1914/15 Star.
Eric married Gladys M Jeffries in 1919 at Norwich, Norfolk. They had two children, Joan (1918) and Cyril (1921). In 1939, the family are living at 1 Brackenbury Gardens, Hammersmith.
