Biography

Battalion Quartermaster Sergeant S Friend passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 26 February 1917.  His entry reveals he was serving with No 3 Section, 64th (Howitzer) Divisional Artillery Column Royal Regiment of Artillery and stationed at Spixworth, Norwich.  He wrote in the visitors’ book “I have much pleasure in here recording my sincerest thanks to the Ladies of Peterboro’ who have provided the necessaries for maintaining the Soldiers & Sailors Rest. At which I have spent some very pleasant hours waiting on train connections”.

We have been unable to trace any records for BQMS Friend, although he is mentioned in the British Jewry Book of Honour.
