Biography
Private E W Johnson was serving with the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry when he passed through Peterborough East Station on 24 September 1916. He wrote a long poem in the visitors’ book, which was entitled “The House with the Open Door”.
The poem begins “It was after the fight one autumn night, on the provance of old Loraine, A couple of wounded English lads, emerged from a country Lane.” The poem goes on to tell a very moving story.
Regrettably, military records for Private Johnson could not be located so he is currently not identified.
Please read the poem and if you think it maybe something your relative may have written, please get in touch. We would like to know more about Private Johnson.
