Biography

At present we have little to go on regarding Frederick William Crouch who passed though Peterborough East Station on 07 September 1916.  He was in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve based at the Admiralty Shore Wireless Station in Lowestoft.

We believe that he was born in Cardiff in 1891, his father John was a beer bottler, originally from London.  His mother Eliza had 11 children, all born in Cardiff.  At the age of 20, Frederick was in Cardiff, working as a clerk for his father who was still bottling beer, as were two of his older brothers.

During the war he worked for the Navy Shore Wireless Service, based at Lowestoft, where he married Marjorie Carver in 1918.  The couple had one son, Walter, who was born in Chelmsford in 1921.

Frederick was living at 63 Cranley Road, Ilford when he died in 1969 aged 78.
