Biography

Very little information was available to trace A R Henderson who passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 12 December 1916, along with his comrade John Day.  It is thought he is probably Air Mechanic 2nd Class A R Henderson with regimental number 106230, who transferred from the Royal Flying Corps to the Royal Air Force on its formation.

His book entry reveals that whilst serving in the RFC he was stationed at The Aerodrome, Tadcaster.

‘Tadcaster Aerodrome was used from 1916 to 1919 and was originally known as Bramham Moor.   It was the headquarters for 33 Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps which carried out air defence around Leeds and Sheffield.  For more information please see  www.pastscape.org.uk
