Biography

Private Yates passed through Peterborough East Station on 21 November 1916 and wrote in the visitors’ book  “Spend an enjoyable time here tea as mother makes it nuff said”.  His entry also reveals he was serving with the 2/4 Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, a battalion was formed in Shrewsbury and it is possible that he came from that area.

It has been difficult to find any information on this soldier.  It is unclear whether his initial is ‘J’ or ‘I’ and on checking both of these, neither match up with his service number and therefore we cannot say with certainty who he is.
