Corporal J Lovelady was serving with the Royal Welsh Fusliers when he passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 27 December 1916. He wrote “At Peterboro we landed one night And we was received with Gt Delight An very thankfall for the way we was treated that night”.
His service records could not be located, however his medal card reveals a home address at 155 Lindens Road, Litherland, Liverpool and he was awarded the British War and Allied Victory Medals.
The 2/4th (Denbighshire) Battalion was formed at Wrexham in September 1914 as a home service (“second line”) unit and for much of the time was based in the east of England. For more information about the Royal Welsh Fusliers please see http://bit.ly/2Dp8ht8
