Thomas Rowland was born in Leeds on 13 February 1892, to parents Henry, a commercial traveller, and Maria (nee Shaw) Fowler.  In 1901, the family were living at 12 Lucas Place, Leeds.  By 1911, Thomas (19) was living at 8 Quarry Mount Terrace, Delph Lane, Leeds with his mother Maria (55), now a widow, and siblings Lawrence (25), Emily (23), Arthur Shaw (21) and Gladys (16). Thomas was an accounts clerk.

Thomas Rowland Fowler was serving with the Royal Field Artillery (RFA) and passed through Peterborough East Station on 29 August 1916, with two other RFA comrades who were all stationed at Norwich.  Unfortunately, we have been unable to locate Thomas’ service record but we know from his medal records that he was awarded the British War and Allied Victory Medals, which indicates that he served overseas.

Thomas married Edith Cropper in Leeds in the autumn of 1924, and believe they had a son, John H Fowler, born in Leeds in 1929.

In the 1939 Register Thomas and Edith are living at 16 Moor Park Villas, Leeds and Thomas was a soft furnishing salesman.  When Thomas died on 6 June 1962, he was living at 16 Shaw Lane, Headingley.
