Biography

Private James A Neil was serving with the 2/9 Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders when he passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 24 January 1917.  He wrote “A most enjoyable rest & delightful cup of tea on a cold morning of January 1917 were appreciated”.

We have been unable to positively identify this soldier due to lack of information.  Could he be related to you?  Please get in touch if you can tell us more about him.

The 2/9 Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (A&SH) was formed at Dumbarton in September 1914 and were known as The Dumbartonshire Battalion.  They were stationed in Norwich during 1916.  For more about this Battalion please see  http://bit.ly/2mOzitR
