Biography

Private James Wharmby of the 2/5 (Earl of Chester’s) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment passed through Peterborough East Station on 29 September 1916.  He was travelling with a group from his battalion, six of whom left their names in the visitors’ book.  To date we have been unable to trace any records for Private Wharmby.

The 2/5 Battalion was formed in Chester in November 1914, as a second line unit for service in the UK.  They had been based at Cambridge, Northampton and Bedford before moving to Lowestoft in mid 1916. http://www.1914-1918.net/cheshire.htm
