Biography
Philip Robert Day was born in 1898 in Yoxford, Suffolk to parents Robert and Fanny (Mountain) Day. He had four sisters and one brother.
In both the 1901 and 1911 Census he is listed as living with his family at Park Place, Yoxford. His father’s trade was a plumber and decorator.
Philip served as a bombardier in the Royal Garrison Artillery and Field Artillery, “D” Battery, 181st Brigade. He was killed in action in France on 25 March 1918 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. He was awarded the British War and Allied Victory Medals.
Philip also had a brother Henry Mountain Day, a Sergeant in the Scots Guards (10633); who was killed in action on 24 August 1918 in France and is buried at Mory Abbey Military Cemetery, France.
No service or pension records survive for either Philip Robert or Henry Mountain Day.
