Biography

Gunner T H Banner was serving with the Heavy Section Machine Gun Corps when he passed through Peterborough East Station on 10 August 1916 and wrote in the visitors’ book.  He was based at Elveden Camp near Thetford where a new secret weapon, the tank, was being developed and soldiers were training on its use.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02b99yq  Tanks were first deployed in the Battle of the Somme in September 1916; did Gunner Banner see action on the Somme?
