Biography

Private Burgoyne passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 1 July 1917.  He wrote:

‘The moving finger writes, & having writ – moves on; Nor all thy piety nor wit can lure it back to cancel half a line, Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.’

Despite the unusual surname of Burgoyne, we have been able to trace Private W Burgoyne of the 4th Monmouthshire Regiment.  Do you recognise the name – can you help? Please get in touch if you can tell us more.
