Biography

Bombardier W Orme was serving with the Royal Field Artillery when he passed through Peterborough East Station and signed the visitors’ book on 26 February 1917.  He wrote:  “When war is near & battle nigh, God & the soldier are the cry, But when war is o’er & all is righted, God is forgotten, the soldiers slighted.”  His entry reveals he was stationed at Burlingham, Norfolk.

We have not been able to positively identify this soldier, or trace his service record, but he could be William Orme with service no 218794.
